Q: How do I quit an application that seems to be unresponsive or frozen? Is there something like Ctrl+Alt+Del for my Mac, or do I have to restart?

Breaking out of the iPhoto Folder Structure
December 5th, 2007 — Write-in Wednesday
Q: I have all of my photos already organized the way I like them in folders, but I’d like to start using iPhoto. I’ve heard that iPhoto reorganizes all of your photos, but I really want to leave the organized the way I already understand. Is there some way to make sure iPhoto doesn’t move all of my photos around?

Q: I love the fact that when I fill out forms on the internet, my Mac just pops in the information. However, since I moved, most of the time it fills in my old address, phone, etc. which I have to erase. Every once in awhile, it fills in my new info. How do I get rid of the old data?
Relocating the iTunes Music Library
November 14th, 2007 — Write-in Wednesday
Q: I love iTunes, but I have a lot of music and it’s taking over my disk space. Can I keep my music on an external drive without re-importing it to iTunes every time I listen to it?
A: Yes, you can. Disk space can be particularly vexing for laptop users, so it’s always nice to find that something that takes up a lot of space, like an extensive music collection, can be moved off-board.

Printing to Size
October 24th, 2007 — Write-in Wednesday
Q: I just scanned and edited a picture with a crop for 5 x 7. Now how do I print it as a 5 x 7? I can’t find where to choose photo size. When I hit print I got a full page picture.
Two For One: What about resizing an image for web use? I can crop them to a certain ratio in iPhoto, but the size is still huge online!

Safe Disposal of…Software?
October 10th, 2007 — Write-in Wednesday
Q: How do I uninstall software?
A: If you’ve wondered this, you’re not alone. This is a question I’ve gotten from countless people, particularly those who have recently started using a Mac after years in a Windows world. In Windows, you generally need to locate the “Uninstall Executable” - an application that uninstalls the software for you - for the software you’re ready to get rid of.
